Basic Info

Blue Gourami are very stunning and beautiful. They have dark blue bodies, with various spots of different tones of blue. Blue Gourami are somewhat iridescent, and will slightly change colors. At maturity, the Blue Gourami will reach a size of four to five inches. Males can be differentiated by their pointed dorsal fins, were as the females is much more round.

Health

The Blue Gourami is an easy fish to care for. They will best thrive in waters with a temperature range from 72 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit. A pH level of six to nine will be acceptable for the Blue Gourami. Their diet includes fresh zucchini, lettuce, peas, spinach, live brine shrimp, blood worms, glass worms, tubifex worms, and frozen, freeze dried, and flakes. A varied well rounded diet is very important to the Blue Gourami or they may die at an earlier age. Breeding The Blue Gourami is an easy fish to breed. When spawning, the male will build a bubble nest.

The Blue Gourami, also known as the Three Spot Gourami, is a beautiful fish. Its rich colors interesting bodies make them an exotic and desired fish among beginning and experience aquarists alike. Each Blue Gourami has an attitude of its own. Some are found to be peaceful and tolerant, and others will attack most fish they share space with. However, most Blue Gourami will get along rather well in community aquariums, if their tankmates are of a similar size. Blue Gourami may fight with each other. To avoid this, try to get fish that are of a similar color pattern. The males are known to fight with each other more than the females. The Blue Gourami is generally seen swimming at the top and middle ranges of the tank. Tank decorations can include the standard rocks, driftwood and live plants. These fish are not known to nibble on live plants.

The Blue Gourami, or Trichogaster trichopterus, is originally from Vietnam and Thailand. They are the same species as the Golden and Opaline Gouramis, the main difference is in their coloration.
